Join us for a semi-formal evening full of film, friends and fun as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Living Skies Student Film Festival, and recognize the best in student filmmaking from here in Saskatchewan and around the world. 

The event is open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to attend. It will be a great opportunity to network, socialize, and celebrate with friends and family. In the style of a semi-formal cocktail party, there will be live music, food, drinks, and an awards presentation by sponsors and festival organizers. 

Tickets are $10.00 each, and will be available for sale at the door, and in Ridell Centre at the University of Regina during the week prior to the festival. Only cash will be accepted, although there is an ATM near the Fifth Parallel Gallery.

There will also be a photo/media wall, and drinks will be available for purchase for those over the age of 19. Minors will only be admitted to the event when accompanied by a parent and/or guardian who is over the age of 19.

SUNSET - Screening Program 3

Living Skies Student Film Festival is proud to present its 2018 short film selections, showcased in 3 loosely-themed programs: SunriseHigh Noon, and Sunset.

All screenings take place at the University of Regina's Campion College Auditorium, and are free and open to the public. 

A 10-minute intermission will take place roughly halfway through each program. Popcorn and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.

Known as the co-creator of Wolfcop, and the man behind each and every one of the character's transformations, Emersen Ziffle has extensive professional experience with make-up, puppetry and practical effects. Watch, listen and learn as Emersen breaks down his practical effects process, and conducts several demonstrations that are sure to leave you impressed and maybe even grossed out.

Besides Wolfcop and Wolfcop 2, Emersen has lent his hand to many Saskatchewan productions, including 13 Eerie, Corner Gas, and Basic Human Needs. Most recently, he worked on the makeup for the reboot of the famous series, Power Rangers. For Emersen's full bio, check out our Special Guests page.

This workshop is presented by and made possible through support from Creative Saskatchewan, which fuels Saskatchewan's creative industries (including film) by investing in Saskatchewan artists and propelling them to create, innovate, expand, and perform in their pursuit of commercial success.

After Ian's presentation and talk at Campion College, attendees are encouraged to join Ian at the Fifth Parallel Gallery for a casual reception & social, sponsored and made possible by the University of Regina's Department of Film. 

Food will be provided, and drinks will be available for purchase for those who are over the age of 19. The event is free and open to the public, however, minors will only be admitted when accompanied by a parent or guardian who is over the age of 19.

THE DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD | An Evening with Ian Toews

Every year, the Department of Film at the University of Regina presents a worthy alumnus with its Distinguished Alumni Award - an honour meant to highlight filmmakers who have made excellent and outstanding contributions to the art of film, and the film industry, with their work. 

In association with the Living Skies Student Film Festival, the Department of Film is pleased to present its 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award to Ian Toews.

Ian received his BFA in Film Production from the University of Regina in 1999, and has since gone on to produce more than 70 hours television episodes, as well as many feature and short film. His projects have been screened and broadcast around the world, and he has won and been nominated for several prestigious awards for his work. For Toews' full bio, check out out Special Guests page. 

Toews will talk with great candour about his life and documentary career. From the U of R years and his last student film, "Four Corners" (1998), through the 50 minute "The Nature of Inspiration" (2011), and to the present day. Excerpts of other documentaries will be discussed, including "Saskatchewan River Delta" (2010), "Great Minds of Design" (2012), "Bugs on the Menu" (2016), and "Ageless Gardens" (2018).

A reception will follow at the University of Regina's Fifth Parallel Gallery, where food will be provided and drinks will be available for purchase. We hope to see you there!

With film examples and colourful anecdotes from 20+ years in the field, filmmaker Ian Toews tries to get the core of what makes a good documentarian (or if nothing else, entertain you).

His documentary work is primarily concerned with the natural environment and often, its degradation. For Toews' full bio, check out our Special Guests page.

This workshop is presented by and made possible through support from the Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative, a non-profit artist-run centre which supports and assists independent visionary film and video production in Saskatchewan. 

Students are especially encouraged to attend, as the last hour of the workshop will feature an opportunity to meet and have coffee with Ian. We hope to see you there!
