Thanks again to everyone who came out to the festival!
We want to say a big thank you to everyone who came out to the Living Skies Student Film Festival! Without your support, we wouldn't be able to put on events like this. Also want to thank again Stephen Surjik and Layton Burton for their fantastic workshops. Hope to see everyone at next year's festival where we'll celebrate 30 years!
We're happy to announce today that local Director of Photography Layton Burton will be giving a workshop at our festival.
Layton is a director of photography with over 30 years of experience. He's travelled the world and is currently residing in his beloved Saskatchewan. He has worked in the film industry on television shows such as Little Mosque on the Prairie and Corner Gas, along with such films as Chained and Surveillance.
Layton's workshop is on Saturday March 3 at 1:00 pm in the ShuBox theatre and will focus on framing and composition. See you there!
The Living Skies Student Film Festival is proud to announce our special guest for the festival: Stephen Surjik.
Surjik directs popular Netflix hits including Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and the yet to be released; Defenders. While not exclusively contracted to direct spandex-wearing-superhero shows, Stephen remains the only director who has worked on all five of these Netflix series, for the highly acclaimed Marvel entertainment.
Stephen began with an auspicious debut, his award-winning graduation film, Second Story Man, garnered a prestigious invitation to the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes.
Subsequently, his work on The Kids in the Hall and then Wayne’s World 2, propelled him to work internationally as a showrunner and director on network prime-time dramas such as The Blacklist, Person of Interest and Burn Notice.
Surjik continues innovating his own directorial style in prime-time network shows like Designated Survivor, as well as pursuing new content, like Bates Motel and Hand of God.
Surjik continues developing original content with writers Chris Haddock, Michael Chernuchin and Rashad Raisani.
Surjik shares his time between Los Angeles and New York.
Stephen will be speaking at the fetival on March 2 at 7pm in the ShuBox Theatre. Don't miss out!
We'd like to introduce our fantastic judges who sifted through hours upon hours of films. Thank you for your hard work! (From Left to Right: Alex Rogalski, Jemma Gilboy, Grace Salez, Logan Vanghel).
